Champion Stats
Low elo players facecheck bushes. Rengar lives in bushes. It's a match made in slaughter. They also path terribly, walking alone through their own jungle like it's a safe zone. It is not. You isolate them, collect another stack on your Bonetooth Necklace, and snowball completely out of control. By the time you have 6-10 stacks on the Necklace, you're walking around with essentially a free Infinity Edge worth of stats. A fed Rengar ends the game mentally before he ends it physically—ADCs start moving as a group of 5, but even that doesn't truly save them.
The Bush Ambush
Bush control is everything for Rengar. In jungle, stack boxes/camps as normal. BUT for top lane or surprise invades, the cheese is real. Leap from bush to a minion to stack Ferocity. Leap again. At 4 stacks, leap onto the enemy champion, use Empowered Q (which is essentially a guaranteed auto-attack reset with massive damage). They will burn Flash or die—usually both. In jungle, invading their buff at level 3 works well if you have lane prio.
Jump from bush. Q mid-air. Ebola. W roar. Double Q. They delete in 0.1 seconds. Type 'Meow' in all-chat. Psychological horror game.
Skins Worth Buying for Rengar
'Headhunter Rengar' is the main skin. It just *feels* right. The predator aesthetic matches the gameplay, and the particles are clean. 'Pretty Kitty Rengar' is for the disrespect/tilt factor—meowing at someone while you one-shot them from stealth is psychologically devastating. 'Guardian of the Sands' feels slightly clunky to some players.
'Headhunter' is the classic. 'Pretty Kitty' for the meow-tilts. 'Guardian of the Sands' for the clean VFX. 'Street Demons' for the modern vibe. Pick your pelt and start the hunt.
When They Ban Rengar
Kha'Zix uses stealth to kill. Evelynn perma-camos. Nocturne deletes via darkness. Kha'Zix is the physical damage equivalent.
Kha'Zix for the stealth jump. Kayn for the wall hacks. Evelynn for the perma-stealth. Kha'Zix is the bug version of the cat.
Rengar's Rune Page
Electrocute is the standard for guaranteed burst on your Ult engage. First Strike is an excellent alternative for snowballing gold; Rengar's assassination pattern guarantees First Strike triggers, and the bonus gold accelerates your item spikes significantly. Fleet Footwork is a niche sustain choice for top lane Rengar into poke lanes. For secondary runes, Sudden Impact is free lethality on every leap.
What to Max on Rengar
Q max first is non-negotiable—it's your primary damage source and your auto-attack reset. E max second for longer root/slow duration, which is essential for catching mobile targets. W max last unless you're going Bruiser Rengar (in which case, W max gives sustain in fights).
Mastering Rengar's Kit
Savagery is an auto-attack reset AND grants attack speed. Always weave Auto-Q-Auto for maximum DPS. Empowered Q is your primary burst tool—massive damage, auto-reset, and a brief attack speed steroid. Land on them, Auto, Q, Emp Q, Auto for instant deletion.
Thrill of the Hunt gives Camouflage (seen by pinks, not normal wards) and reveals the nearest enemy champion with '!'. Use the reveal for information, even if you don't commit to a jump. The armor shred on your first leap out of Ult is significant—always leap from Ult onto your target, don't walk up.
Who Rengar Beats (And Who Beats Rengar)
Hard Top Lane Counter. Her Riposte (W) blocks your Q burst AND stuns you. Never jump if she has W ready. Bait it first.
Hard Counter. Her W stops your leap. You literally cannot play the game into Poppy. Dodge or ban.
Skill Matchup. His E reveals you even in stealth/ult. If he marks you with E, you can't approach unseen. Whoever engages first wins.
Fiora blocks your jump with Parry (W) - don't jump on her when it's up. Poppy stops your jump with W - you can't play. Use bush to outplay Jax E.
Ferocity Greed
Do not jump into 5 people. You have NO escape once you commit to a leap. If you don't kill your target instantly, you are dead. A 1-for-1 trade is NOT worth it if you are the carry threat. Always buy Edge of Night for the spell shield—it prevents that one crucial CC from ruining your engage. Also, use your Ult for information gathering, not just killing. Sometimes knowing where they are is more valuable than jumping.
Always keep 4 stacks before a fight if possible. Empowered W saves you from CC, empowered Q kills the target, and empowered E roots them. Manage your purple bar like your life depends on it—because it does.
When You Can't Get Resets
Dodge if the enemy drafts Poppy or Taric bot. Poppy's W (Steadfast Presence) stops your leap entirely—you can't play the game into her. Taric Ult grants invulnerability to the entire team, negating your assassination window. These champions specifically counter Rengar's entire playstyle.
Poppy/Janna/Lulu make your life miserable. If you jump in, you bounce off or get polymorphed. Buy Edge of Night. Or splitpush.
Dodge Poppy. W stops your jump. You are grounded. Dodge Taric. Immortality R counters your burst. You can't kill anyone.
The Flank Assassination
Ult from behind them. Circle around to flank while stealthed. Wait for the engage—let your tank soak the initial CC. Once Leona Ult is gone and Lux binding has missed, jump on the ADC. Mid-air E (Bola Strike) to root/slow them. Land, Q, Empowered Q, Ignite. They are dead. Now assess: can you kill another, or do you need to bush-hop out? If the ADC builds Guardian Angel or Zhonyas, switch targets to the mage.
Your R grants vision of the target. Use this to scout the enemy jungle. If you see the carry alone, it's Christmas. jump, Q, Q, collect gold. You're a simple cat with a simple mission: delete.
The Crit Rengar Build
Full Crit Rengar is the ultimate disrespect. Essence Reaver into Infinity Edge into Lord Dominik's Regards. Your Q can crit for upwards of 2500 damage late game. It deletes squishies in literally 0.1 seconds. The sound of the crit Q alone tilts enemies. Standard Lethality (Hubris/Profane Hydra/Axiom Arc) is more reliable for climbing, but Crit Rengar is for styling.
Essence Reaver and Infinity Edge turn your Q into a delete button. You don't even need the full combo—one auto-Q will kill a 50% HP ADC. This is high-stakes gaming at its best. Embrace the crit.
When Rengar Hits Hardest
Serrated Dirk is your first spike—lethality is extremely efficient early. Level 6 gives you your Ult for guaranteed ganks. 3-4 stacks on Bonetooth Necklace is when you start feeling 'fed'. At 6+ stacks and 2 items, you are the most dangerous champion on the map by a significant margin. Respect these windows; don't fight before them if avoidable.
Dirk spike, Level 6, and 3-item crit. These are your power peaks. If you aren't 5/0 by 15 minutes, you failed the feline test. Get back in there and hunt something. The jungle is yours.
Level 6 (Ult). Essence Reaver/Hubris completion. 10 minutes in with 3 trophies. If you aren't snowballing, you are a decoration.
The One-Shot From Fog
Focus one person. Kill them. Ult again immediately off cooldown and kill them off spawn. Make them type in all chat. 'Why me?'. The answer: 'You are the weakest link.' Alternatively, sit in a bush and let them see the '!' but don't jump. The anticipation is worse than the actual death. They will flame their team for not collapsing, tilt, and make mistakes.
The '!' indicator is your best friend. Use it to fake a movement, then jump from a different angle. If they hide near their tower, just wait. The fear of you is often more effective than the kill itself.
