Champion Stats
The isolation mechanic effectively acts as a 'bad player detector'. If an enemy is far away from minions or allies, the isolation indicator appears around them, signaling they are about to take 100% bonus damage on your Q. Smurfs exploit this by tracking map positioning and punishing every single misposition. Your evolution system allows you to adapt—Evolve Q for objective shred and isolated dueling, Evolve E for multikill resets, Evolve W for poke/slow, Evolve R for invisible map movements. No two games are the same.
The Isolation Trade
Kha'Zix is not a level 1 cheese champion. He needs his abilities to fight. The standard pattern is full clear to Level 4-6, then gank lanes that are pushed up. However, you CAN invade at Level 3 if you have lane priority and the enemy jungler is isolated at their buff. Your Q damage early is absurd if they are isolated—most junglers cannot duel you if they're alone.
Kha'Zix Level 1 is weak. Do not cheese. Full clear to Level 4. BUT, if you see the enemy jungler at scuttle and they are isolated, jump them. Isolated Q damage basically wins any 1v1.
Skins Worth Buying for Khazix
'Mecha Kha'Zix' has visual/audio cues that indicate when a target is ISOLATED—a distinct beep sound plays. This is genuinely pay-to-win information. 'Death Blossom' is the clean choice with smooth animations. 'Championship' is for the prestige. Avoid 'Dark Star' if you find the particles too noisy.
'Mecha Kha'Zix' has visual/audio cues for isolation targets (beeps). It is genuinely pay-to-win info. 'Death Blossom' is clean. 'Championship' is prestigious. Mecha is the optimal competitive choice.
When They Ban Khazix
Rengar offers the stealth burst. Blue Kayn provides the wall-phasing assassin style. Evelynn gives permanent stealth. Rengar is the closest 'hunt and kill' playstyle.
Khazix's Rune Page
Dark Harvest is standard for snowballing assassin patterns—each kill makes your next burst stronger. First Strike is an excellent alternative for gold generation; Kha'Zix's assassination combo is guaranteed to proc First Strike (you hit first from stealth), printing bonus gold. Electrocute is the consistency option for guaranteed burst without needing stacks.
What to Max on Khazix
Max Q first for raw damage, always. W second for poke/sustain/slow utility. E last since you only put points into it for damage, not cooldown (the reset from Evolution handles that). Evolve Order for Smurfing: Q (Level 6) > E (Level 11) > W/R (Level 16). Evolved E resets are MANDATORY—this is how you get pentakills.
Mastering Kha'Zix's Kit
Taste Their Fear deals over 100% increased damage to isolated targets. Always check for the 'isolation ring' indicator around the enemy before committing—this ring appears when they are far from minions/allies. Evolved Q increases range by 50 units, allowing you to kite melee champions while shredding them. Save Q for when isolation is guaranteed.
Void Spike is your poke, sustain, and slow utility. Use it point-blank in the jungle to heal off camps (the heal only works if YOU are in the explosion). Evolved W fires three spikes in a spread and creates a massive 90% slow on isolated targets for 2 seconds—use this to catch fleeing enemies or to peel for your team.
Leap is your signature mobility tool. Base E has a 20+ second cooldown. Evolved Wings grants the RESET mechanic—on kill or assist, the cooldown is refunded INSTANTLY. Do NOT use E to engage unless you are 100% sure you will secure a reset; otherwise, walk up using R stealth and save E for escape or cleanup.
Void Assault grants 1.25 seconds of invisibility and bonus movement speed. You can cast R up to 2-3 times (depending on evolution). Each cast resets your passive (Unseen Threat), which adds magic damage and a slow to your next auto. Use R to approach unseen, reposition mid-fight, or escape over walls after assassinating.
Who Khazix Beats (And Who Beats Khazix)
THE Legendary Matchup. Whoever spots the other first wins. Buy Oracle Lens early. If you see him leaping, E sideways and Q (he's isolated mid-air).
Skill Matchup. Dodge his Q, you win. Get hit by Q, he follows up and kills you. R stealth to juke his Q. Your isolation damage is higher if you can land Q.
Hard Matchup. Cocoon stuns you mid-combo. Rappel dodges your Q burst entirely. She beats you early. Farm and outscale her; she falls off, you don't.
Jumping Into 5
Do NOT jump in if they are not isolated unless you are massively fed. The damage difference between isolated Q and non-isolated Q is over 100% bonus damage. Verify the isolation ring indicator around the target before committing. Also, Evolved E resets only on KILLS and ASSISTS—if you jump in and don't secure the kill, you have no escape.
WARNING: Do NOT jump in if they are not isolated. Non-isolated Q deals 0 damage. Check the ring indicator. Also, Evolved E only resets on KILLS. If you jump in and get an assist, you die.
When They Counter Your All-In
Dodge if the enemy team drafts heavy grouping/peeling compositions like Lulu + Kog'Maw or Orianna. These comps never leave people isolated, making your Q bonus damage nearly impossible to proc. Also dodge into Rammus—he taunts you into auto-attacking and you kill yourself.
Dodge Lulu/Kog'Maw comps. They never separate. You never get isolation. Dodge Rammus. He taunts you, you auto him, you kill yourself on his shell. It is unplayable.
The Cleanup Crew
Wait on the flanks. Do not engage first. Let the fight start without you. Watch for low-HP targets or isolated backliners. E in, Q-Auto (Passive proc), and immediately assess: did someone die? If yes, E reset to the next isolated target or E out to safety. If the E reset is up, you can chain kills. If not, you are dead. You are the grasshopper of death—bouncing from corpse to corpse.
Wait on the flanks. Let the fight start. Let cooldowns be used. Jump on the low HP target -> Q -> Kill -> E Reset -> Jump to next. You are a janitor. Clean up the mess.
The Evolved Assassin Build
Hubris into Axiom Arc into Opportunity is the greed build. Hubris gives you a statue on every kill and stacking AD. Axiom Arc refunds Ultimate cooldown on takedowns, letting you R twice per teamfight. Opportunity gives bonus lethality when attacking from stealth. You run around one-shotting repeatedly.
Hubris -> Axiom Arc -> Opportunity. Hubris stacks AD on kills. Axiom gives you double R casts per fight. You run around one-shotting people while invisible. It's greedy but effective.
When Khazix Hits Hardest
Level 6 is your first major spike—Evolved Q damage is absurd. Level 11 (Evolved E) is when you become a teamfight reset machine. Youmuu's/Hubris completion is your item spike. Before these windows, respect stronger early-game junglers. After Level 11, you are the most dangerous assassin in the game.
Level 6 (Evolved Q) is the biggest single-target spike. Level 11 (Evolved E) is the teamfight spike. Youmuu's completion lets you map-move. Level 6 Invades are your bread and butter.
The Invisible Leap
Killing them in their own jungle repeatedly creates a 'jungle diff' mental state. The enemy jungler cannot safely take camps, cannot safely gank, cannot safely exist. Sitting in a bush with R active, waiting for them to walk by, is peak Kha'Zix terrorizing. After killing them, take their camp, then leave a ward so they see you doing it.
Killing them in their own jungle repeatedy creates 'jungle diff'. Sit in a bush with R active. Wait for them to walk by. W-Q-Auto. They die before they react. Taking their camps is just a bonus.
