Champion Stats
Low elo players don't know how to dodge bubbles (Q). They will walk in predictable lines, allowing Nami to land multi-person knock-ups that lead to free kills. They also fail to respect her E (Tidecaller's Blessing) damage, often taking massive chunks of health from a simple AA trade. Her R (Tidal Wave) is also an amazing engage or disengage tool that uncoordinated teams cannot handle.
The Bubble Trade
Start W (Ebb and Flow) for the ultimate trading tool. If you can land a W that bounces from the enemy to you (or vice versa), you win the trade exponentially. Level 2 with Q (Aqua Prison) gives you the kill potential—land the bubble, follow up with W, and ignite.
Your W bounce range is surprisingly long. Use it to heal your ADC and hit the enemy support at the same time. It's the most efficient mana-spend in the game. Keep the wave flowing.
Skins Worth Buying for Nami
'Splendid Staff Nami' is the high-tier 'elegant' choice. 'Deep Sea Nami' is the classic 'creepy' smurf skin with the unique bubble. 'Program Nami' offers amazing digital effects. Avoid 'Koi Nami' as it's the absolute basic skin.
'Splendid Staff' has a very subtle bubble indicator on the floor. In a river fight, it's almost invisible. Use it to catch the enemy ADC off-guard while they're focusing on CS.
'Splendid Staff' is the smooth, high-fashion choice. 'Cosmic' is flashy. 'Deep Sea' has a hard-to-see bubble. Splendid Staff animations are top tier.
When They Ban Nami
Janna if you want the disengage. Lulu if you want the protection. Seraphine if you want to be the carry support. Nami is the queen of the bounce—if she's gone, be the breeze or the beat.
Janna for disengage. Lulu for buffs. Seraphine for teamfight CC. Janna is the best pivot if you need to stop divers.
Nami's Rune Page
Summon Aery is the best choice for both healing and poke. Electrocute (with Mandate) is a viable smurf alternative for massive burst in early trades. Secondary Inspiration with Biscuit Delivery and Cosmic Insight for lane sustain and cooldowns.
What to Max on Nami
Max W first—it's your primary heal and damage tool. Max E second for the increased damage and slow on your buff. Max Q last as the stun duration is fixed and the cooldown decrease isn't as vital.
Mastering Nami's Kit
Aqua Prison. Nami hurls a bubble, dealing magic damage and knocking up all enemies hit. This is one of the hardest-to-hit but most impactful CCs in the bot lane.
Ebb and Flow. Nami sends a stream of water that bounces between allies and enemies, healing allies and damaging enemies. Each bounce increases/decreases the effect based on her AP.
Tidecaller's Blessing. Nami buffs an ally (or herself), making their next 3 basic attacks or spells deal bonus magic damage and slow the target. Use this to set up your Q.
Tidal Wave. Nami summons a massive wave that travels forward, knocking up and slowing all enemies hit. The move speed buff from her passive is doubled for allies hit by the wave.
Who Nami Beats (And Who Beats Nami)
Hard Matchup. He can out-damage your heal and his burst is too high for your early shields. You have to wait for him to move for an axe catch to land your Q.
Hard Counter. Her Black Shield (E) completely invalidates your Q and R. You have to bait it out or use your W to poke until she's forced to use it.
Easy Matchup. You can easily poke her out level 1-2. If she engages, you can bubble her ADC to stop the follow-up or bubble her the moment she Lands her E.
Tidal Wave Whiff
Stop missing your bubbles! If you throw a random Q and miss, you lose all your kill pressure and self-peel. Use your E or W slow to make your Q easier to hit. Also, don't forget that your passive grants movement speed—use your spells on allies even if only for the MS boost during a chase or escape.
Don't just throw Q! Use your E or W slow first. A naked Q is the easiest thing to dodge in the game. Also, your R has a long travel time—use it from fog or as a follow-up. Don't be the 'fish that missed'.
When Your ADC Is Doomed
Dodge if facing heavy 'dive' comps with Hecarim or Vi if your team has no other peel. They can often outpace your slow-moving bubble and wave. Also dodge into Morgana who can block your CC.
Hecarim and Vi will run right through your bubble. If you see them, save your R for the exact moment they land. You need the knockup to break their momentum. If your ADC is inting, build AP and carry yourself.
Dodge Hecarim/Vi. You can't bubble them reliably. Also dodge Blitzcrank if you have slow reaction times. One hook on you is death.
Peel or Engage?
In teamfights, you are the CC and utility engine. Use your R (Tidal Wave) to either initiate or counter-engage. Follow up your ultimate with a Q on a key target. Keep your E on your most active damage dealer and use your W to bounce heals and damage through the frontline. You are the rhythm of the fight.
You're both. Start the fight with R, follow with Q. In a defensive fight, save the bubble for the diver. Use W to bounce between your frontline and their backline to maximize the impact. You're the conductor of the sea.
The Enchanter Nami Build
Full AP 'Nuclear Tidecaller' Nami. Luden's Tempest -> Lich Bane -> Rabadon's Deathcap. With this build, your W heal/damage is massive and your E-procs will one-shot squishies. It's hilarious to see a 'support' fish carrying the entire team's damage. High-risk, maximum flex.
Imperial Mandate is your core. It turns your E into a nuclear bomb for your ADC. If you're winning, go for Shurelya's to keep the pressure on. Avoid building 'pure support' items if you can buy a bit of AP instead—Nami scales well.
When Nami Hits Hardest
Level 1-3 is your strongest lane pressure phase. Level 6 is your massive teamfight spike. Your biggest item spike is reaching Imperial Mandate, which turns your CC into a massive damage boost for your team.
Level 1-3 is your prime lane- bully window. Level 6 is the global teamfight spike. 20 minutes with Mandate is when you start deleting people with a single W-bounce. Don't fall off by playing too passive.
Level 2 Bubble/W trade is S-tier. Level 6 Tidal Wave wins teamfights. Mandate completion gives your team massive burst. Play aggressive early.
The Tidal Wave Engage
Spam the 'laugh' emote while swimming through the river. Type 'Looks like a wash!' in all-chat after a successful R-Q combo. The sight of a giant wave taking up the entire lane and then being trapped in a bubble is purely tilting.
Spam 'Looks like a wash!' after every bubble kill. Laugh while you swim. Nami is the ultimate 'low-key annoying' support—they'll ignore you until you've already won the game for your team.
R from fog of war. It's huge. Follow up with Q on the slowed targets. Spam laugh while swimming away. 'Surfs up' in chat.
