Champion Stats
Low elo players constantly stand near walls without realizing the danger. Poppy's E (Heroic Charge) punishes this relentlessly—a wall stun leads to a guaranteed Q hit and often results in a kill or burned Flash. They also spam their dashes mindlessly without considering that your W exists. Watching a Yasuo E through your minions only to get bonked out of his dash and grounded is one of the most satisfying feelings in League. A smurf uses R strategically to turn 5v5 teamfights into 5v3s by yeeting the enemy frontline or jungler back towards their base, making the fight trivially easy for your team.
The Frontline Opener
Start Q (Hammer Shock) for waveclear or E (Heroic Charge) if there's a wall near the Level 1 fight. Your passive (Iron Ambassador) throws a buckler as a ranged auto—pick it up for a substantial shield. Trade pattern: throw buckler for poke damage, walk up to collect shield (now you have damage mitigation), Q the enemy for % max HP damage. With Grasp of the Undying and Shield Bash, you are surprisingly tanky and bursty at Level 1. Most melee champions don't expect Poppy to outdamage them early, which you absolutely will if you manage your passive correctly.
Ranking Poppy's Skins
'Astronaut Poppy' is cute. 'Star Guardian' is heroic. 'Lollipoppy' (old) was nightmare fuel, now okay. 'Hextech Poppy' is rare.
'Battle Principal' has a very satisfying 'clink' sound on the shield-pick-up. 'Astronaut' makes the W field look like a galaxy, which can be visually confusing for enemies. Use the 'cosmic clutter' to your advantage.
'Astronaut' is S-tier cute. 'Star Guardian' is hero vibes. 'Noxus' is goth. 'Lollipoppy' is meme fuel. Astronaut walk is 10/10.
When They Ban Poppy
Level 1 with Passive shield is an incredible trade. Level 2 with E-wall-stun is a kill. By mid-game, you should be looking for every jungle wall in the game. You are the queen of the forest.
Ornn for tank. Vex for anti-dash. Maokai for utility. Vex is the mage version of 'Stop Dashing'.
Poppy's Keystone Choice
Grasp of the Undying (Top) or Phase Rush (Jungle). Dark Harvest for Assassin Poppy. Shield Bash, Bone Plating, Revitalize. Secondary Inspiration (Biscuits/Cosmic).
Skill Max Order for Poppy
Max Q for the % HP damage. Max E second for stun duration. W last.
Mastering Poppy's Kit
Hammer Shock. Slams ground. Damages/Slows. Explodes after delay for % Max HP damage.
Steadfast Presence. Passive: Armor/MR bonus (doubles low HP). Active: Speed + Anti-Dash field. Stops dashes and grounds/damages.
Heroic Charge. Dash to enemy. Push them. If hit wall = Stun.
Keeper's Verdict. Charge up. Hammer slam. Knocks enemies far away towards their base. Tap R for simple knockup.
The Poppy Matchup Sheet
Easy. W blocks her Q3 and E. She can't play the game.
Skill. W blocks her Q, but she can parry your E/R. Mind games.
Hard. Barrels zone you. No dashes to block. Just farm.
Tanking Without Purpose
Stop saving enemies with your R! Keeper's Verdict (R) sends enemies towards THEIR base, not yours. If you charge R and yeet a low HP enemy, you just saved their life and potentially cost your team the kill. Only use charged R to remove threats from objectives (like yeeting the enemy jungler out of Dragon pit) or to create a numbers advantage in fights. If you want to use R for damage and CC in a fight, tap it instead of charging—tap R is a short-range knockup that keeps enemies in place for follow-up damage. Also, PICK UP YOUR BUCKLER. The passive shield is massive and can be the difference between winning and losing a trade.
When They Melt Through You
Dodge Darius or Olaf. They have no dashes to block (Olaf R ignores CC). They just run at you and kill you. True damage hurts.
Gwen and Fiora ignore your W and your armor. If you see them, don't pick Poppy Top. If you're already in game, prioritize Bramble Vest early and play for the teamfights, not the solo duel.
Dodge Darius/Olaf. No dashes to block. They run you down. True damage hurts. Don't pick Poppy here.
Peeling vs Engaging
In teamfights, peel for your carry. Stand on them. W when the assassin jumps in. E them into a wall. Q them. Or, flank and E the enemy carry into a wall. Use charged R to remove the enemy jungler from the Dragon pit.
Poppy is the ultimate 'No' champion. Dash in? No. Ult away? No. Jump? No. If your ADC is fed, stay on top of them. If their Jungler is at 50% HP, charged-R them to another planet and take the Dragon.
The CC Machine Build
Lethality Poppy. Youmuu's -> Opportunity -> Dead Man's. E (Stun) -> Q -> Auto (Duskblade/Passive). You one-shot ADCs before the stun ends.
Winter's Approach into Fimbulwinter is an underrated tank core for Poppy. The constant shields from your slows and stuns make you impossible to kill. Combine with Sunfire for the burn and you're a walking problem.
Support/Tank: Locket -> Zeke's. Jungle: Sunderer/Trinity. You do surprisingly high base damage. Dead Man's Plate for speed.
When Poppy Comes Online
Level 3 (Full combo). Divine Sunderer/Iceborn spike. Jungle fights (lots of walls).
Level 2 wall stun. Divine Sunderer (if top). Level 16 R knockback distance. You are strong when people dash.
Level 2 Wall Stun. Hexflash ganks. Late game W usage. Blocking a Lee Sin Q2 is pure serotonin.
The Immovable Object
Blocking a dash with W (bonk sound) is hilarious. Yeeting someone away who just teleported in. Spamming jokes.
Your W doesn't just block dashes; it gives you massive resistances when you're below 40% HP. You are never 'almost dead'; you're just 'warming up'. Use the extra tankiness to land a perfect E-stun against a wall. Hammer time.
W the Rengar jump. Bonk him away with R. Emote. You are the anti-carry. Relish in their frustration.
