Champion Stats
Low elo players consistently underestimate Darius's level 1 and level 2 damage. They will try to trade with you, only to realize too late that they have 5 stacks and are about to die. They also fail to dodge the outer ring of his Decimate (Q), allowing Darius to heal and maintain his pressure indefinitely. In teamfights, their lack of focus allows Darius to stack his passive on a tank and then Flash-R the carries.
The Bleed Stack
Start W (Crippling Strike) for the reset and slow, or Q (Decimate) for the poke and heal. If you start W and take Ghost, you can often run the enemy down at level 1 if they overextend. In a level 1 invade, Darius is one of the scariest champions due to his passive stacking on multiple targets.
Start W, take Ghost, and wait in the bush. If they walk up, it's an instant Flash or First Blood. 5 stacks is a win button—once you see the red drop, press Ghost and run them down. Nobody survives a level 1 Darius with 5 stacks.
Which Darius Skin to Use
'God-King Darius' is the ultimate smurf skin—the animations are incredible, and the wolf effects on the R are purely intimidating. 'Dunkmaster Darius' is a classic for the BM factor and the satisfying sound of the hoop. 'High Noon Darius' offers a very clean aesthetic and crisp sound effects. Avoid 'Bioforge Darius' as the visuals are a bit muddy compared to his newer options.
'God-King' or nothing. The wolf on the R is the ultimate 'you're dead' signal. 'Dunkmaster' is for the memes, but 'God-King' is the competitive choice. Avoid 'Academy'—it looks like a joke compared to his better skins.
When They Ban Darius
If Darius is banned, Garen offers similar 'execute' pressure and lane dominance. Mordekaiser for the AP juggernaut profile. Sett for the 'king of the pit' brawling style.
Garen is the simple pivot. Sett for the brawling. Mordekaiser for the isolation. If you pick Morde, remember your 'Ult' is a different kind of execution. Darius mains love the blood; Morde mains love the realm.
Garen offers similar 'execute' pressure and lane dominance minus the bleed. Mordekaiser is the AP juggernaut version who steals stats. Sett is the 'king of the pit' if you want to punch people. Garen is the simplest transition.
Optimal Runes for Darius
Conqueror is the mandatory choice for the extra AD and sustain that synergizes perfectly with your passive. Phase Rush is an alternative if you need the mobility to stick to slippery targets. Secondary Sorcery with Celerity and Waterwalking (or Nimbus Cloak) to help you close the gap.
Darius's Ability Priority
Max Q first—it's your primary damage, waveclear, and sustain. Max E second for the massive passive armor penetration and reduced cooldown on your pull. Max W last as the damage scaling is secondary to your passive and Q.
Mastering Darius's Kit
Decimate. You swing your axe in a circle. Hitting enemies with the blade (outer ring) heals you and applies a stack. Hitting with the hilt deals less damage and does nothing else.
Crippling Strike. Your next attack deals bonus damage and slows. It resets your auto-attack timer. Use it as an AA-W reset for fast stacking.
Apprehend. You pull enemies in front of you. It also gives you passive armor penetration. Use this to catch runners or interrupt dashes.
Noxian Guillotine. You leap and strike a target. Damage increases per stack. If it kills, the cooldown is reset for a short time. At rank 3, the reset is permanent.
Darius's Lane Opponents
Easy Matchup. You can punish him for every single minion he tries to stack. Freeze the wave and kill him if he steps up. Just don't let it reach the 30-minute mark.
Skill Matchup. He can dash in, stun you, and dash out before you can stack. You have to pull him (E) during his second dash to force an extended trade where you win.
Hard Counter. She can parry your E or your R and then out-duel you. You have to bait her W or out-play her vitals to have a chance.
Dunk Tunnel Vision
Stop missing the outer ring of your Q! If you hit the hilt, you deal no damage, gain no passive stacks, and don't heal. It's the difference between winning a 1v2 and dying like a dog. Also, don't save your R for the 'perfect execute' if you need the Noxian Might proc immediately—sometimes using it to hit 5 stacks is worth more than the kill itself.
Your E has a tiny bit of armor pen built-in. Use it to shred the tank while you're stacking your passive. It makes the 1v1 against champions like Malphite much easier long-term.
When the Duel Is Unwinnable
Dodge if facing Vayne or Quinn in the top lane—the kite is unbearable and you will never touch them. Also dodge into heavy kite comps with Karma and Ezreal if your team has no other engage.
Vayne and Quinn are the ranged tax. If you see them, take D-Shield and Second Wind. Don't even try to fight before level 6 + Ghost. Or just dodge. Life is too short to play against a Vayne top.
Dodge if facing Vayne or Quinn. The kite is unbearable and you will never touch them without Ghost and Flash. Also dodge Karma top. You are a juggernaut; being kited is your only weakness, and they exploit it perfectly.
Diving the Backline
In teamfights, your goal is to reach Noxian Might as fast as possible. Stack your passive on the closest target (usually a tank), then look for a Flash-E or Flash-R onto a squishy carry. Once you have Noxian Might, every hit applies 5 stacks, making you a god of destruction. Use your E to interrupt key enemy channels.
Find the tank, hit him 4 times, then Flash-E-R the carry. Instant 5 stacks. From there, you just right-click everyone else. Darius in a teamfight is a game of 'find the reset'. Once you find it, the fight is over.
The Noxian Guillotine Build
Full Movement Speed Darius. Stridebreaker -> Dead Man's Plate -> Force of Nature -> Youmuu's Ghostblade. With Ghost and this build, nothing can escape the Hand of Noxus. You will be a 500+ MS juggernaut that is impossible to kite.
Stridebreaker is your soulmate. The slow guarantees your Q and E. Dead Man's for the speed. If they have three mages, go Force of Nature. Avoid building pure AD—you need the tankiness to survive the stack-up time.
Full Movement Speed Darius: Stridebreaker -> Dead Man's Plate -> Force of Nature. With Ghost, nothing can escape. You become a 500+ MS lawnmower. Stridebreaker active is important for landing Qs.
Timing Darius's All-Ins
Level 1-3 is your prime lane-dominance window. Level 6 provides the execution reset. Your biggest item spike is Stridebreaker, which gives you the slow you need to guarantee your full combo and stick to targets.
Level 1 is your strongest outplay window. Level 6 is your execution window. Your biggest spike is Stridebreaker + Tabis—once you have those, you can 1v2 most junglers. Darius doesn't fall off, he just gets harder to kite.
Level 1-3 is your prime lane-dominance window—cheese in the bush. Level 6 provides the execution reset. Stridebreaker completion gives you the stickiness you need to actually reach people.
The Pentadunk
Spam the 'Mastery' emote after every dunk. Use the 'Dunkmaster' voice lines to mock the enemy. The sight of a Darius with 5 stacks running at you with Ghost is one of the most tilting experiences in League of Legends.
Spamming mastery while the blood drip kills them is mandatory. Type 'Dunked' in all-chat after every successful R reset. Darius is designed to tilt the entire enemy team—embrace your role as the raid boss.
Spam the 'Mastery' emote after every dunk. Use the 'Dunkmaster' skin voice lines. The sight of a fully stacked Darius running at you with Ghost is terrifying. Dunk them and type 'Slam Jam' in chat.
