Sona ARAM Build — The Highest Win Rate Champion in ARAM
Sona has the highest win rate in ARAM at 58%+. Her Q poke, W healing, and E movement speed make her a teamfight monster. Here's how to build her for maximum impact on the Howling Abyss.
Sona in ARAM is legitimately broken. She has the highest win rate of any champion in the mode, consistently sitting above 58%. Her Q (Hymn of Valor) pokes from range, her W (Aria of Perseverance) heals and shields your entire team, and her E (Song of Celerity) gives everyone movement speed for engages and disengages.
The reason she's so strong is simple: ARAM is constant teamfighting, and Sona's entire kit is designed for teamfights. Her auras affect everyone nearby. Her ult is an AOE stun. And her passive Power Chord adds bonus effects to her basic attacks after every 3 spell casts.
Best Sona ARAM Runes
Primary: Domination
Dark Harvest — Sona stacks this faster than almost any champion. You're constantly poking with Q and getting assists. By 15 minutes you'll have 25+ stacks and your Q will chunk squishies.
Cheap Shot — Your R stuns, which procs Cheap Shot for bonus true damage. Free damage on every ult.
Eyeball Collection — Free AP from takedowns. You'll max this out in 10 minutes.
Ultimate Hunter — Lower R cooldown means more teamfight-winning stuns. Sona's ult is her identity.
Secondary: Sorcery
Manaflow Band — Sona is the most mana-hungry champion in the game. Manaflow Band is mandatory.
Gathering Storm — Free AP over time. ARAM games go long, so Gathering Storm gives you scaling.
Why not Summon Aery? Aery is fine for shielding, but Dark Harvest scales way harder in ARAM. You're not laning, you're teamfighting from minute one. Dark Harvest gives you kill pressure that Aery can't match once you have 20+ stacks.
Best Sona ARAM Items
Core Build (in order)
Archangel's Staff — Sona is mana-hungry. Archangel's gives you mana, AP, and ability haste. Rush this first. It transforms into Seraph's Embrace later for a shield.
Sorcerer's Shoes — Magic penetration boots. More damage on Q and Power Chord.
Lich Bane — Sona's Power Chord is an empowered auto attack. Lich Bane makes it hit like a truck. This is your biggest power spike.
Rabadon's Deathcap — Massive AP boost. Your Q poke and W healing both scale with AP. This makes you unkillable.
Situational 5th & 6th Items
Void Staff — If they have 2+ tanks building magic resist. 40% magic penetration makes your poke relevant again.
Zhonya's Hourglass — If you're getting dove by assassins. R the enemy team, Zhonya's, watch your team collapse.
Morellonomicon — If they have heavy healing. Your Q applies Grievous Wounds.
Banshee's Veil — Against heavy CC comps. The spell shield lets you survive one engage tool.
Don't build Moonstone Renewer on Sona in ARAM. Moonstone is a support item. You're not supporting — you're the AP carry. Archangel's + Lich Bane + Rabadon's gives you way more damage and healing. Leave Moonstone for actual enchanters.
Ability Order
Max Q first (Hymn of Valor), then W (Aria of Perseverance), then E (Song of Celerity). Take R at 6, 11, 16.
Q is your primary poke and damage. Lower cooldown means more poke and more Power Chord procs.
W second for the healing and shielding. In ARAM, your W heals and shields your entire team in every fight.
E is one point wonder until last. The movement speed is nice, but the scaling isn't worth maxing over Q or W.
ARAM-Specific Tips
Your passive Power Chord changes based on your last ability used. Q Power Chord does bonus damage. W Power Chord reduces enemy damage. E Power Chord slows. In ARAM, use Q Power Chord for poke, W Power Chord to reduce burst damage on your carries, and E Power Chord to slow divers.
Your auras stack with multiple casts. Sona's Q, W, and E give auras to nearby allies. The auras stack if you cast multiple abilities. In teamfights, spam all 3 abilities to give your team damage, healing, and movement speed at the same time.
Q poke: Sona's Q has 700 range and hits the two nearest enemies. In ARAM, the enemy team is always grouped, so your Q hits multiple targets. Use Q on cooldown to poke before fights start.
W timing: Sona's W heals and shields nearby allies. In ARAM teamfights, use W when your team is low to heal everyone. The heal is massive with Rabadon's.
R positioning: Sona's ult is a line stun. In ARAM, the enemy team is always grouped on the narrow bridge. A good R can stun all 5 enemies. Wait for them to group, then R through their entire team.
When Sona is Strong vs Weak in ARAM
Sona dominates against everything. She has a 58%+ win rate for a reason. She's strong against poke comps because her W heals the poke. She's strong against engage comps because her R stuns the engage. She's strong against sustain comps because her Q poke outdamages their healing.
She struggles against hard-dive assassins (Zed, Talon, Fizz) who can dive past your team and one-shot you. She's also weak in the first 10 minutes before Archangel's and Lich Bane. Once you have both items, you're a monster.
She's weakest when your team doesn't group. Sona's auras only affect nearby allies. If your team is spread out, you're useless. Stay grouped and spam abilities.
