Let's cut right to the chase because I don't want to see you crying on a forum next week: You are not getting free Riot...

Riot likes to pretend they care about the "New Player Experience." "We made it easier to get champions!" they claim in every patch note video. "We reduced the price of Yuumi!" (Nobody asked).
But if you are actually starting a new account in Season 16—whether you're a new player or a veteran leveling a smurf—you know the harsh reality. Farming Blue Essence (BE) is absolutely miserable.
Between the nerfs to event pass token generation and the RNG nature of Level-Up Capsules, getting enough BE to buy the 20 champions required for Ranked feels like a punishment. Nobody wants to play 100 games of Warwick and Annie because they can't afford the 6300 BE champions like Hwei or Smolder.
I've leveled about 50 accounts in my life. I have optimized the fun out of it. Here is the mathematical breakdown of how to beat the system in 2026.
If you are determined to level 1-30 manually without spending money, you need to be efficient.
Do not upgrade Champion Shards. Do not unlock Mastery 6 or 7.
Riot gives special "Glorious Champion Capsules" at key milestones (Level 50, 75, 100). But the rewards between Level 30 and 40 are actually statistically terrible. The XP curve slows down, meaning you get fewer capsules per hour played than you did at Level 20. Once you hit 30, the "free stuff" dries up. Be warned.
When an event is live (like the current Demacia event), buy the pass if you plan to play a lot. But do NOT spend tokens on Orbs or Skins.
Let’s talk about the value of your time.
To farm 50,000 Blue Essence (enough for a solid champion pool of mains), you are looking at roughly 150-200 games of League of Legends.
If an average game takes 30 minutes (including queue and champ select), that is 75 to 100 hours of your life.
You are effectively paying Riot $725 worth of your time to unlock some pixels.
Alternatively, you can buy a Vanguard-Safe Smurf Account for roughly $20.
Unless you literally have zero dollars and infinite free time (students, I get it), grinding Blue Essence is a scam. It is a system designed to keep you addicted, chasing the next unlock.
