Ezreal ARAM Build — Poke King of the Howling Abyss
Ezreal is the safest ADC in ARAM. His Q poke is relentless, his E gives him a free escape from engages, and he scales into a monster. Here's how to build him to maximize poke damage while staying alive.
Ezreal in ARAM is basically playing on easy mode. You sit in the back, spam Q through the minion wave, and watch health bars disappear. His E (Arcane Shift) means you always have an escape when someone snowballs onto your team. And unlike most ADCs who need to auto-attack in dangerous range, Ezreal does most of his damage from a screen away.
The catch? You actually have to hit your Qs. Miss too many and you're a glorified caster minion. But on the narrow ARAM bridge, landing skillshots is way easier than on Summoner's Rift.
Best Ezreal ARAM Runes
Primary: Inspiration
First Strike — Ezreal procs First Strike with Q from max range before the enemy can retaliate. Free gold and bonus damage on every poke rotation. In a 20-minute ARAM game, First Strike generates 400-600 bonus gold easily.
Magical Footwear — Free boots at 12 minutes (minus 45 seconds per takedown). In ARAM you'll get them by 8-9 minutes. That's 300 gold saved.
Biscuit Delivery — Sustain in ARAM is king. Biscuits also permanently increase your mana pool, which matters for a champion who spams abilities nonstop.
Cosmic Insight — Lower cooldowns on summoner spells and item actives. Flash and Snowball come up faster.
Secondary: Precision
Presence of Mind — Ezreal burns through mana fast in ARAM. Presence of Mind restores mana on takedowns, keeping you casting through extended fights.
Coup de Grace — Extra damage to low-HP targets. Your Q poke chunks them down, then Coup de Grace helps you finish.
Dark Harvest is the alternative. If you want more raw kill pressure and less gold generation, Dark Harvest works well on Ezreal too. You'll stack it fast with Q poke. First Strike is generally better for consistent value, but Dark Harvest is more fun if you're ahead.
Best Ezreal ARAM Items
Core Build (in order)
Trinity Force — Sheen proc on Q is Ezreal's bread and butter. Trinity gives AD, attack speed, ability haste, and the Spellblade passive. Every Q hit procs Sheen for bonus damage.
Ionian Boots of Lucidity — Ability haste boots. More Qs = more damage = more Sheen procs. The math is simple.
Muramana — Buy Tear of the Goddess on your first back, then finish Muramana after Trinity Force. Ezreal stacks Tear faster than any other champion because Q counts as a spell. Once stacked, Muramana adds massive bonus damage to every ability.
Serylda's Grudge — Armor penetration + a slow on all your abilities. Your Q now slows, making it even harder for enemies to dodge the next one. This is your biggest power spike after Muramana.
Situational 5th & 6th Items
Frozen Heart — If you're getting dove by AD assassins or auto-attackers. The armor and attack speed reduction keeps you alive.
Maw of Malmortius — Against heavy AP burst. The magic damage shield has saved more Ezreal players than E ever has.
Blade of the Ruined King — If they're stacking HP (Cho'Gath, Sion, tanks). The %HP damage on your autos adds up.
Guardian Angel — If you're the only carry and can't afford to die. Revive, E away, keep poking.
Don't build full AP Ezreal in ARAM. It's tempting because W+E burst looks flashy, but AP Ezreal has to use his escape (E) offensively to deal damage. In ARAM, that means you E forward into 5 people and die. AD/Trinity Ezreal does comparable damage from safety with Q poke.
Ability Order
Max Q first (Mystic Shot), then W (Essence Flux), then E (Arcane Shift). Take R at 6, 11, 16.
Q is everything. Lower cooldown, more damage, and every Q that hits reduces all your other cooldowns by 1.5 seconds. In ARAM, you're hitting Q constantly, which means your W, E, and R come back up faster than the enemy expects.
W second because it marks targets — hitting a marked target with Q or E detonates it for bonus damage. In teamfights, W+Q is your main burst combo.
E is one point. It's your escape. The damage scaling isn't worth maxing over Q or W.
ARAM-Specific Tips
Buy Tear on first death. Don't wait. Tear stacks with every ability cast, and Ezreal casts more abilities than almost any champion in ARAM. The sooner you start stacking, the sooner Muramana comes online. Ideally you want Tear + Sheen on your first buy.
Use R to waveclear, not just for kills. Ezreal's ult does reduced damage after hitting each target, but it still one-shots the minion wave. Use it to clear waves when your team needs to push, then it'll be back up in 60 seconds anyway. Holding ult for the "perfect" snipe means you're using it once every 3 minutes instead of every 60 seconds.
Q through dying minions: Your Q stops on the first target hit. In ARAM, the minion wave is always in the way. Wait for minions to get low, then Q through the gap when one dies. Or angle your Q from the side of the bridge where there are fewer minions.
E defensively, always: The number one Ezreal mistake in ARAM is using E aggressively. Your E is your only escape. If Malphite ults your team and you already used E to poke, you're dead. Save it. The only exception is if you're 100% sure you can E forward for a kill and survive.
Snowball + E combo: If you hit a snowball, you can dash to the target with snowball and then immediately E back to safety. This lets you proc W mark and get a full combo off without staying in danger. It's risky but devastating when it works.
When Ezreal is Strong vs Weak in ARAM
Ezreal excels against poke comps and squishy teams. If the enemy is all mages and ADCs, your Q poke will chunk them out before fights even start. He's also great against teams with one engage threat — you just E away from the engage and keep poking.
He struggles against hard-engage comps with multiple dive threats. If they have Malphite + Leona + Zac, your single E isn't enough to escape all of them. He's also weaker against heavy sustain — if Soraka heals everything you poke, you're not accomplishing much.
He's weakest in the first 5 minutes before Sheen. Once you have Sheen, your Q starts hurting. Once you have Muramana, you're a poke machine. Ezreal is a scaling champion even in ARAM.
