Champion Stats
Low elo players don't respect Tristana's level 2 all-in. They will let her jump on them with E-AA-Q, leading to a quick kill and an early snowball. They also fail to account for her W (Rocket Jump) resetting on kills/assists and fully stacked E pops, allowing her to jump through an entire team like a reset-crazed assassin.
The Bomb Jump
Start E (Explosive Charge) for lane pressure and early trades. If you can land an E on the enemy ADC and get 2-3 AAs, they will be forced to play safely. Level 2 is your 'go time'—take W (Rocket Jump), jump on them, and ignite for a guaranteed kill or Flash.
Your W 'Rocket Jump' resets on a kill or a full E charge. Use this to 'jump-in-kill-jump-out'. You're an assassin in an ADC's role. If you don't jump, you're not playing Tristana.
Ranking Tristana's Skins
'Dragon Trainer Tristana' is a legendary smurf skin—the animations are adorable and the dragon effects are top-tier. 'Bewitching Tristana' offers great visual effects on her E. 'Firecracker Tristana' is a fun choice with satisfying sound effects. Avoid 'Riot Girl Tristana' unless you want the absolute basic look to hide your skill.
'Dragon Trainer' for the cute dragon. 'Little Demon' for the sass. 'Omega Squad' for the explosives. 'Firefighter' for the classic flex. Tristana is about the boom—pick the one that explodes best.
When They Ban Tristana
If Tristana is gone, Lucian is the closest 'aggressive mid-range' ADC. If you want more scaling, Jinx. But nothing matches the feeling of jumping on people and blowing them up.
Lucian for the dash/burst. Jinx for the reset. Kai'Sa for the assassin style. Lucian matches the early aggression.
Tristana's Keystone Choice
Press the Attack is the best choice for maximizing your level 2 all-in and burst. Lethal Tempo is an alternative for better late-game scaling. Secondary Inspiration with Magical Footwear and Cosmic Insight to reach your core crit items faster.
Skill Max Order for Tristana
Max E first—it's your primary damage and the center of your resets. Max Q second for the massive attack speed steroid. Max W last as the mobility is primarily for utility and resets.
Mastering Tristana's Kit
Rapid Fire. You gain a massive attack speed bonus for a few seconds. Use this to stack your E quickly or to shred towers.
Rocket Jump. You jump to a location, dealing damage and slowing. It resets on kills, assists, and whenever an Explosive Charge (E) explodes at maximum stacks on a champion.
Explosive Charge. Passive: enemies explode when killed by AAs. Active: you place a bomb on a target that grows in damage with each attack (max 4). It also damages nearby enemies and structures.
Buster Shot. You fire a massive cannonball that deals damage and knocks the target (and surrounding enemies) back. Use this to peel or as a powerful finisher.
The Tristana Matchup Sheet
Easy Matchup. You can out-burst and out-push her early. Jump on her at level 2 and she will have no way to react. Just don't let her condemn you mid-jump.
Hard Matchup. He has similar early aggression but with higher sustained damage. You have to win the 'all-in' early or he will snowball out of control.
Skill Matchup. She has the range advantage early, but you have the all-in. If you can get on top of her without stepping on a trap, you win the duel.
Rocket Jump Forward
Stop jumping in without a plan! Your W is your only escape. If you jump in and don't get a kill/reset, you are a dead yordle. Also, don't miss your R (Buster Shot) execute—it's great for finishing kills or peeling for yourself, but using it too early can save the enemy.
Reset Jump is the drug. Jump in -> Kill -> Jump out. Or Jump -> Jump -> Jump. Don't get addicted. Sometimes jumping in is inting.
Don't do it unless you get the reset. W in -> E -> Auto -> R -> W out. If you mess up, you die. It's hero or zero.
When You Can't Auto Safely
Dodge if facing heavy 'anti-dash' comps with Poppy or Vex. They will stop your Rocket Jump and kill you. Also dodge into Draven if you aren't confident in your early 2v2.
Poppy W stops jump. Vex fear stops fall. Taliyah E stuns dash. Against these, you are grounded.
Dodge Poppy/Vex. They stop your jump. You are grounded. A grounded Tristana is a dead Tristana. Don't pick into anti-dash.
The DPS Check
In teamfights, you are a reset-assassin in marksman form. Stay at the edge, use your E on a priority target, and wait for it to pop or for them to get low. Once you get a kill, use your W reset to reposition or dive the next target. Your passive (Draw a Bead) gives you more range as you level up, making you a late-game monster.
E bomb on tower. Q for speed. Towers melt. E bomb on tank. Hits AOE. You shred everything late game.
The Crit Tristana Build
Full Lethality/Crit 'One-Shot' Tristana. Youmuu's Ghostblade -> Collector -> Infinity Edge. With this build, a W-E-AA-R combo will literally delete any squishy in under a second. It's the ultimate 'disrespect' build for carrying games where you are already ahead.
Kraken into Navori into IE. You want maximum burst. Your Q gives you insane attack speed—use it to stack the bomb in 1 second. You are a snowball champion; get one kill and take the whole bot lane. Boom.
Kraken -> Navori -> IE. Navori resets your Q and E. You have permanent rapid fire. Explosions everywhere. It's beautiful.
When Tristana Comes Online
Level 2 and 3 are your first massive kill windows. Your biggest power spike is reaching 2 items (Kraken + Navori), which gives you infinite Q and E uptime. At level 16+, your range becomes almost equal to Caitlyn's, but with better burst.
Level 2 W-E all in. IE + Navori spike. Level 18 range (longest natural range). You scale like a monster.
Level 2 All-in. Level 6 Burst. 3 Items. You scale into a monster with massive range. Play for the late game resets.
The Reset Rocket Jump
Spam the 'jump' emote every time you get a reset and escape. Type 'Is that it?' in all-chat after a level 2 kill. The sight of a tiny yordle jumping through the air and deleting health bars is incredibly tilting for opponents.
W deals damage. W resets on E explosion at max stacks. You can W -> E -> Auto x4 (W reset) -> W -> R -> W. It's a trampoline.
Jump in. Kill. Jump again. Kill. Jump again. The goomba stomp playstyle. Type 'Boing' in chat. Pentakill machine.
