Champion Stats
Low elo players can't dodge Jayce's Shock Blast (Q) + Acceleration Gate (E) combo. They will consistently walk into the poke, losing 40% of their HP from fog of war. They also fail to respect the burst of his Hammer form, often getting surprised by the amount of damage Jayce can deliver in a single jump-rotation. He is the king of the 'poke and dive' playstyle.
The Opening Skirmish
Jayce has two abilities at level 1 (Q in both forms). Start Q and look for a Hammer Q + AA followed by a Form switch and Cannon Q poke. This level 1 rotation is stronger than almost every other champion in the game. If you land everything, you can force a Flash or a back before the first wave is even gone.
Level 1 you have 2 abilities. R switches forms. Start Q. Shoot Cannon Q. Switch to Hammer. Q jump on them. Auto. Switch back. You have 6 moves at level 3. Use them all. You burst harder than anyone early.
Ranking Jayce's Skins
'Resistance Jayce' is a great 'smurf' skin with very industrial, crisp sound effects. 'Forsaken Jayce' is the classic dark-themed choice with menacing red effects. 'Debonair Jayce' (and its Prestige version) offers a sleek, high-class look. Avoid 'Full Metal Jayce' unless you like the retro feel, as newer skins have much better visual clarity on his E-gate.
'Battle Academia' voice lines are annoying to me, but effects are anime-cool. 'Forsaken' red particles are hard to see (good for you). 'Resistance' sounds crisp. 'Full Metal' is clunky. 'Debonair' is sleek. Forsaken for the win.
When They Ban Jayce
Varus Mid for poke. Nidalee Jungle (if you jungle). Gnar Top. Jayce is unique as a shapeshifter. Gnar is the closest 'Mini/Mega' dynamic.

Jayce's Keystone Choice
First Strike is the best choice for maximizing your gold lead and burst damage. Phase Rush is the alternative for mobility to escape ganks or kite out dangerous bruisers. Secondary Inspiration with Magical Footwear and Cosmic Insight to reach your Lethality items faster.
Skill Max Order for Jayce
Max Q first—it's your primary damage in both forms. Max E second for the increased movement speed on your gate and the percentage-HP damage on your Hammer-E. Max W last as the attack speed/mana restore is secondary to your other tools.
The Jayce Matchup Sheet
Easy Matchup. You can punish her relentlessly before she reaches level 6. Dive her, poke her, and don't let her scale. You should be 30 CS up before she can even fight back.
Skill Matchup. You out-range him, but if he pulls you (E), you are in trouble. Use your Hammer-E to knock him away immediately if he gets close. Poke him to death before he can engage.
Hard Counter. He is a rock. You deal physical damage. He will build armor and laugh at your poke, then ult you and you will die. Avoid this lane at all costs.
The Limit Test Gone Wrong
Stop missing your Gate-Q's! If you miss your empowered Shock Blast, you lose a massive chunk of your pressure and mana. Also, don't just stay in Cannon form—you need your Hammer form for the defensive stats and the finishing burst. Knowing when to jump in is what separates the masters from the amateurs.

When You Can't Win the Side Lane
Dodge if facing Malphite or Ornn—they will build armor and you will never kill them, while they can easily set up ganks to kill you. Also dodge into Irelia who can out-play your poke with her dashes.

The Frontline Brawl
In teamfights, your job is to poke before the fight starts. Land 1-2 empowered Q's on the enemy carries to force them to retreat or start the fight with low HP. Once the fight breaks out, look for a target to dive with your Hammer form. Use your Hammer-E (Thundering Blow) to peel for yourself or to knock a target into your team. You are a hybrid of a sniper and an assassin.
Your Hammer form Q-E combo is a great ways to secure kills under tower. Jump in, auto, and then knock them back into your team or deeper under the turret. Always remember that your Hammer form autos restore mana—use it to stay in lane longer.
The Brawler Build
Full Lethality 'One-Shot' Jayce. Youmuu's Ghostblade -> Hubris -> Serylda's Grudge. With this build, an empowered Q will literally one-shot squishies if you are ahead. You become a long-range artillery machine that can also duel anyone in melee with pure damage.

When Jayce Comes Online
Level 1-3 is your prime dominance window due to having more abilities than the opponent. Level 6 is... well, you don't have a traditional ult, so your spike is whenever you finish your first item (usually Youmuu's or Opportunity). Jayce spikes hardest in the mid-game when he can poke down teams during objective contests.

The Outplay Montage
Landing an empowered Q from fog of war and then using the 'thinking' emote is the peak Jayce experience. Type 'Tomorrow is looking bright' in all-chat after a long-range Q-kill. The feeling of being deleted from the game by a projectile you didn't even see is incredibly tilting.
