Champion Stats
Low elo players struggle immensely against Nidalee's two greatest strengths: poke pressure and invade tempo. They consistently walk in straight lines, allowing you to land max-range Javelins (Q) that chunk them for 50% of their HP before a fight even starts. Furthermore, they do not ward their jungle entrances, which lets you track the enemy jungler, steal their camps, and kill them on their second buff. Nidalee's clear speed allows you to 'lap' the enemy jungler—you will be level 5 while they are barely level 3. This XP gap makes you unkillable and lets you one-shot them with a simple Cougar combo.
The Spear Snipe
The 'Trap-Start' Area Denial. Start W (Bushwhack) instead of Q if you have a team with CC or expect an invade. Place traps at every entrance to your jungle and on the enemy's raptor ramp. This gives you Level 1 vision that is invaluable. For pure damage, Start Q. Invade the enemy's top-side buff if you know they started bot. Land a max-range spear from the darkness (fog of war) onto the buff/champion. This steals the buff or forces them to base. Alternatively, placing a trap under the enemy's first camp (Raptors/Wolves) triggers the 'Hunt' passive, letting you invade aggressively at Level 2 with increased movement speed.
Skins Worth Buying for Nidalee
'French Maid Nidalee' is the classic smurf skin (Spears are hard to see). 'Headhunter' has the best sound effects. 'Snow Bunny' is for the OGs. 'Super Galaxy' is clunky.
'Headhunter' has the most satisfying spear impact sound. It makes you feel like you're actually hunting. Also, the spears are slightly thinner visually, making them harder to dodge in the jungle.
'French Maid' is the classic 'Spear is invisible' skin. 'Headhunter' has satisfying sounds. 'DWG' is the pro flex. Headhunter feels the most lethal.
When They Ban Nidalee
Elise for the dive and burst. Graves for the invade and tempo. Lee Sin for the high-skill-cap mechanics. Nidalee is the hunter—if she's gone, be the spider, the outlaw, or the monk. Keep the pressure high.
Elise for the AP dive. Lee Sin for the early pressure. Graves for the invade. Elise is the AP assassin jungler sister.
Nidalee's Rune Page
Dark Harvest (Scaling) or Conqueror (Dueling). Electrocute works for pure burst. Sudden Impact is mandatory. Secondary Sorcery (Waterwalking) for river skirmishes.
What to Max on Nidalee
Max Q for the spear damage. Max E second for the heal/attack speed buff. W last.
Mastering Nidalee's Kit
Aspect of the Cougar. Shape shift. Low cooldown. Triggers sheen/passive resets.
Who Nidalee Beats (And Who Beats Nidalee)
Easy early, Hard late. Invade him 24/7. If he gets items, he runs you down.
Skill. She can dodge spear with Q. Invade her marks. Whoever bursts first wins.
Skill. Dodge Q or die. If you hit spear, you win.
Vs Master Yi: Invade him level 2. He can't fight you without items. If he hits level 6 and you're even, he wins. Vs Kindred: It's all about the Q dodge. If you hit spear, you win. If she dodges, you lose.
Cougar Form Greed
Stop jumping in blindly! This is the #1 mistake of bad Nidalee players. Just because you landed a spear does NOT mean you have to press W (Pounce) instantly. If you jump into 5 people to execute a support, you will die. You are extremely squishy. Use your Human form to poke and heal until the target is isolated or low enough to guarantee a reset. Also, AIM YOUR SPEARS. If you cannot land Q, you are not a champion. Practice predicting movement, not just aiming at where they are standing. A Nidalee who misses spears is just a minion with a heal.
When They Counter Your All-In
Dodge Rengar or Kha'Zix. They burst you faster than you burst them. You are squishy. Also Poppy works to stop your jumps.
Rengar and Kha'Zix will jump you first. You're squishy, so if you miss the spear, you're dead. Poppy is the other problem—her W stops your Pounce. If you see her, play like a poke mage and never go Cougar form.
Dodge Rengar/Kha'Zix. They jump you first. Dodge Poppy. W stops your pounce. You are useless against Poppy.
The Cleanup Crew
In teamfights, you are a poke mage until someone is low. Chuck spears from the side. Heal your ADC with E (huge attack speed buff). Only go in (Cougar Form) when a squishy is Marked and below 50% HP. Jump in, execute, Jump out/Zhonya's.
Your trap (W) also applies the Hunt mark. Place them in brushes around the objective. If an enemy steps on one, you can jump them from a screen away. Vision is your best weapon.
Spear from fog. Heal carry. Only jump in (Cougar) to execute marked low HP targets. Do not jump in first. You are not a tank.
The AP Nidalee Build
AD Nidalee Top (The Bruiser). Trinity Force -> Blade of the Ruined King. You auto-attack them to death and use Cougar form Q to execute. Nobody expects the hybrid damage.
Lich Bane is your first and only love. It makes your Cougar Q hit like a truck. Shadowflame after for the magic pen. Avoid building tanky—if they hit you, you failed. Embrace the glass-cannon life and hit those spears.
Lich Bane -> Shadowflame -> Zhonya's. Lich Bane makes your Q execute massive. You need burst, not DPS. One spear into one cougar combo should kill.
When Nidalee Hits Hardest
Level 3 (Full kit unlocked). First Item (Lich Bane/Shadowflame). You fall off late game unless insanely fed, so end fast.
Level 3 with the full kit is your first invade window. Lich Bane completion is your dueling spike. You fall off hard after 30 minutes, so if the game isn't won by then, you're just a heal-bot. End it fast.
Level 3 Invade. Lich Bane spike. Mid-game siege. Fall off late game. Win early or lose slowly.
The Max Range Spear
Throw spears from fog without showing yourself. They panic when they lose half HP from nowhere. Spam 'Meow' in all chat.
Type 'Meow' in all-chat after every max-range spear kill. Sniping a backing enemy from fog is the peak Nidalee experience. Pinging your healing numbers while you save your ADC is a subtle but effective flex.
Blind spears from fog of war. Hitting one chunks 70% HP. Type 'Sniper' in chat. Psychological damage is real.
