Champion Stats
Low elo players disrespect the Blight stacks. 3 stacks + W-empowered Q deals massive % Max HP magic damage. They think they are tanky, and then they disappear. They also group tightly, making Varus R (which spreads) a team-wiping CC. A smurf lands every Q and R perfectly.
The Range Advantage
Start E (Hail of Arrows). Not Q? E slows and is easier to hit. Auto-Auto-Auto-E. The E detonates Blight (if W was skilled... wait, W is passive. Need level 2 for W active/passive? Actually W passive is usually level 1 or 2). Okay, Start E for slow/poke. Level 2 W for burst.
Use your E to slow them, then stack Blight. One Q-pop at 3 stacks is 20% of their HP. You don't need to win the auto-battle; you win the ability-burst battle.
Ranking Varus's Skins
'Dark Star Varus' is distinct. 'High Noon' is satisfying. 'Cosmic Hunter' is clean. 'Heartseeker' for the love arrows. 'Project' is a bit clunky.
'Dark Star' is the most prestigious. 'High Noon' has the cleanest arrow animations. 'Arctic Ops' for the pro-player look. Varus has the best bow in the game—pick the one that fires straightest.
'Dark Star' is clean. 'High Noon' is western cool. 'Heartseeker' is for the Valentine's vibes. Dark Star feels the most powerful for landing snipes.
When They Ban Varus
If Varus is gone, Ashe is the best 'utility-arrow' pivot. If you want more poke, Jhin. But nothing matches the Blight-pop.
Ashe for the R engagement. Jhin for the sniper fantasy. Kog'Maw for the tank shred. Ashe matches the 'utility marksman' role perfectly.
Varus's Keystone Choice
Lethal Tempo (On-Hit) or Comet/HoB (Lethality/AP). Lethal Tempo is standard for carrying. Secondary Sorcery or Inspiration.
Skill Max Order for Varus
W > E (On-Hit). Actually W max second is good for tank shred. Q max always first.
Mastering Varus's Kit
Piercing Arrow. Charge to increase range/damage. Detonates Blight.
Blighted Quiver. Attacks apply Blight. Abilities detonate for % HP damage. Active: Empowers next Q to deal missing HP magic damage.
Chain of Corruption. Root first target. Spreads to nearby enemies if not cleansed. Huge teamfight tool.
The Varus Matchup Sheet
Hard. Range disadvantage. Poke with Q.
Hard. He runs you down. R him properly.
Skill. She dodges Q. You have to lock her down with R.
Overstepping for CS
Stop missing R! It's a slow projectile but it's huge. Lead the target. If you miss R, you have no self-peel. Also, pop your stacks! Don't just auto attack. Auto x3 -> Ability. Optimizing Blight detonation is the difference between doing 200 damage and 1000 damage.
You have zero mobility. Save your R for self-peel. If the assassin jumps you, R them and run. Use your E to slow the chase. You're a sniper—stay at the back and aim well. Arrows ready.
When Kiting Won't Save You
Dodge Yasuo or Samira. Windwall blocks Q, E, and R. You are useless. Also Olaf ignores your R.
The Kiting Dance
In teamfights, use R to catch someone or disengage. If Lethality, charge Q from fog and snipe. If On-Hit, stand back, stack Rageblade, and melt the nearest target. Use E to reduce healing (Grevious Wounds built-in!).
The Late Game Build
AP Varus. Nashor's -> Riftmaker -> Rabadon's. Your W passive deals % Max HP per 100 AP. With full build, 3 stacks + WQ deals 80% Max HP magic damage. You literally one-shot Cho'Gath.
On-hit Varus is back. BORK into Guinsoo's. You'll shred tanks in seconds. Or go AP for the 100% HP burst. One W-Q at 600 AP is a game-ender. You're the ultimate hybrid carry—adapt or die.
On-Hit: BORK -> Guinsoo's -> Terminus. You shred tanks in seconds. AP: Nashor's -> Riftmaker -> Deathcap. You one-shot tanks with W-Q. Choose your poison.
When Varus Comes Online
Level 6 (R). 1 Item Spike. AP Build scales infinitely into late game vs tanks.
Level 1-3 poke. Level 6 for 'Chain of Corruption'. 2-item spike. By late game, your R can win a whole teamfight. If they're grouped, they're dead. Shoot like a god.
Level 6 R. 1-Item Spike. Level 11. You are strong at all stages if you hit Qs. If you miss Qs, you are never online. Aim better.
The Outplay Kite
Sniping them under tower with Q when they think they are safe. Typing 'Calculated' when the limit-test builds works.
