Champion Stats
Low elo players do not understand 'Geometry'. They stand behind minions thinking they are safe, not realizing your Q (Plasma Fission) splits at 90 degrees to hit them perfectly. They also underestimate the Organic Deconstruction (Passive) true damage. You can melt a 4000 HP Cho'Gath in seconds. Vel'Koz punishes bad positioning with death.
The Mana-Efficient Trade
Start Q (Plasma Fission). Fire it into the fog of war as the lane starts. Split it early to hit the enemy laner while they are leashing or walking to lane. You can land 2-3 Qs before the minions even meet. You establish dominance by showing them that nowhere is safe.
Geometry. Q splits 90 degrees. Hit them around minions. Poke them down. W-E combo for true damage proc.
Q angles. Geometry. Shoot Q sideways, split it to hit them behind minions. They can't dodge what they can't predict. Force them to back.
The Velkoz Skin Tier List
'Arclight Vel'Koz' is the cleanest (Pay-to-Win hitboxes). 'Infernal' is decent. 'Battlecast' has great sound effects but feels clunky to some. Default is actually very smooth.
'Arclight' has the most hidden hitboxes—true pay-to-win. 'Infernal' for the fire-geometry. 'Battlecast' for the industrial look. Vel'Koz is about precision—pick the skin that helps you aim.
'Arclight' is pay-to-win (hitboxes look smaller). 'Battlecast' is classic. 'Infernal' is okay. Arclight is the competitive choice.
When They Ban Velkoz
If Vel'Koz is gone, Xerath is the best 'long-range-math' pivot. If you want more AOE, Lux. But nothing replaces the 'deconstruction' laser. Stay focused on the void.
Xerath for the range. Lux for the laser. Ziggs for the bombs. Xerath is the direct competitor for 'artillery mage'.
Runes That Work on Velkoz
Arcane Comet (Standard Poke) or First Strike (Gold Generation). Manaflow Band is critical. Scorch for early pressure. Secondary Inspiration (Cosmic Insight) or Precision (Cut Down vs Tanks).
Leveling Velkoz's Abilities
Max Q for the poke and slow. Max W second for the waveclear (it pushes HARD). E is a one-point wonder for self-peel.
Mastering Vel'Koz's Kit
Plasma Fission. Fires a bolt. Splits 90 degrees on reactivation or hit. Slows. Refunds mana on kill.
Void Rift. Two charges. Opens a rift dealing damage. Detonates for more damage. Great for waveclear.
Tectonic Disruption. Small circle knockup/stun. Hard to land. Use it defensively or on CC'd targets.
Life Form Disintegration Ray. Channeled Laser. Follows cursor. Slows. Deals massive damage (True damage if Researched).
Matchups That Matter for Velkoz
Hard. Windwall blocks Q and W. You can laser through windwall, but he dashes on you. Ban.
Skill. Rush Zhonya's. If he ults, time E behind you.
Skill/Easy. You can poke her from angles she can't hit.
Positioning Laziness
Stop firing your R (Life Form Disintegration Ray) when they have CC up! You are a turret. If you press R, you cannot move. Wait for them to blow their stun/hook, THEN laser them. Also, use your Q angles. Firing Q straight at them is easy to dodge. Firing it to the side and splitting it instantly is unreactable.
You are a stationary laser turret during R. Make sure you're safe! Use your Q to slow the approach. If they get close, E them away. You're the smartest person in the room—act like it.
When They Outrange You
Dodge Fizz. He jumps over your skills and one-shots you. Dodge Yasuo. Windwall blocks EVERYTHING (Q, W, E, but not R... actually it blocks W/E projectiles). It's miserable.
Xerath is the only one who truly outranges you. Fizz/Yasuo counter your projectiles. Ban Yasuo.
Dodge Fizz/Yasuo. Windwall deletes your kit. Fizz E dodges your everything. You can't play geometry against invulnerability.
The Backline Artillery
Stay in the back. Use Q to poke. Use W to stack passive on clotted enemies. Use E to peel divers off you or follow up on CC. Press R when you have 3 stacks on a target (Researched) to deal Massive True Damage. You melt the team front-to-back.
R beam deals true damage to Researched targets. Stack passive first. Then Laser. If you R without stacks, it's just magic damage.
Stay in fog. Q poke. W waveclear. R to melt the team once passive stacks are applied. True damage laser wins teamfights. Don't get flanked.
The Scaling Build
Movement Speed Vel'Koz. Luden's Companion -> Shadowflame -> Stormsurge. You run fast, you shoot lasers, you deal true damage. Who needs defense when you have Geometry?
Liandry's and Horizon Focus. You deal true damage, so magic pen isn't as critical as raw AP and haste. Burn them through their armor. You're an eye-god of math—calculate their demise. Sin/Cos/Death.
Luden's -> Horizon Focus -> Shadowflame. Magic Pen + True Damage. Tanks melt. Squishies pop. Position well or die.
Velkoz's Strongest Moments
Level 6 (Laser Beam). 2 Items (Liandry/Luden). True Damage scaling implies you are always relevant.
Level 6 for the laser. 2-item spike. Level 11 with the Q-max. By late game, your range is your best defense. If they can't reach you, they're dead. Precision is the key to victory.
Level 6 Laser. Luden's Spike. Level 16 (True Damage R doesn't need stacks? No wait, it does. check patch notes). Late game you are a death star.
The Combo Nuke
Spamming the 'Oh darn' emote after hitting a crazy angle Q. Typing 'Sin^2 + Cos^2 = You Dead' in all chat. Analyzing their movement patterns and predicting their dodges.
Q-W-E-R. If you land the E-stun, it's a guaranteed R kill. Your passive 'Deconstruction' is the core. 3 hits = true damage. Melt the tanks, erase the squishies. The void is watching.
E knockup -> W -> Q -> R. If you land E, they are dead. 100-0 combo. Calculated. Type 'Math diff' in chat.
