The Range Advantage

First Blood Strategy

The Level 1 cheese on Akshan relies on his passive shield and double-shot. Start Q (Avengerang). Wait for the enemy to walk up to the wave. Throw Q through the minion wave so it extends range and hits them, applying a stack of your passive. Immediately walk up and Auto-Auto. The second shot comes out almost instantly and grants you a shield. You win this trade 100% of the time because your shield absorbs their retaliation. Repeat this every time your passive shield is off cooldown.

Ranking Akshan's Skins

'Cyber Pop Akshan' is the choice for slick animations and satisfying sound effects; the neon aesthetic tilts enemies when you swing on them. 'Crystal Rose' is elegant and has very clear visual indicators for his passive, which helps with spacing. 'Three Honors' is a massive flex if you have it, signaling to the enemy that you are a positive (or at least commended) player who is about to destroy them.

'Cyber Pop' has the best E swing SFX, providing a tactile feel for the reset timing. 'Crystal Rose' is the cleanest for tracking your passive marks on multiple targets. Default is fine, but it doesn't have that 'I'm about to revive my whole team' ego.

When They Ban Akshan

Backup Picks

If Akshan is banned, Twitch offers a similar 'stealth assassin' playstyle in the roam aspect. Lucian has the double-shot mechanic and high lane pressure. Kayle has the 'save your team' utility, though she scales much slower.

Lucian is the closest you'll get to the early lane dominance, but you'll miss the roam. Twitch is the pick if you want to keep that 'surprise from stealth' element. Don't pick Kayle unless you're prepared to lose lane for 15 minutes.

Akshan's Keystone Choice

Best Runes

Press the Attack is non-negotiable. Your passive double-shot triggers 2 out of the 3 required hits instantly, allowing you to proc PTA in a fraction of a second. Presence of Mind is essentially for mana sustain since you will be spamming Q to shove and roam. Legend: Alacrity makes your combo smoother, and Coup de Grace ensures your Ultimate executes low HP targets. Secondary Resolve (Shield Bash + Bone Plating) makes your early trading absolutely oppressive.

Skill Max Order for Akshan

Q E W

Max Q first for the waveclear; you need to shove the wave instantly so you can roam. Max E second for the raw burst damage on your swing. W last, as the stealth duration doesn't improve significantly enough to warrant points. Note: Some high-elo Akshan players put 3 points in Q then max E for better all-in kill pressure.

Mastering Akshan's Kit

Q
Avengerang

Avengerang. Hitting units extends the range significantly. Use it to check bushes or snipe enemies trying to recall under tower.

W
Going Rogue

Going Rogue. You are camouflaged near walls. Use this to path through the enemy jungle safely. Passively marks enemies who kill your allies. Killing a Scoundrel revives the dead ally and gives you bonus gold.

E
Heroic Swing

Heroic Swing. The DPS tool. You can E to a wall, wait there indefinitely, and then swing when the target gets close. It resets on takedowns.

R
Comeuppance

Comeuppance. A lock-on execute. It is blocked by towers and minions. Use it to stack your passive before a fight or finish off a low HP target.

The Akshan Matchup Sheet

Vs Yasuo Hard

Impossible. Windwall blocks Q, R, and Autos. Even if you are fed, he shuts you down. Dodge.

Vs Zed Skill

Skill Matchup. You can bully him heavily levels 1-5. Rush Plated Steelcaps. If you survive his R burst, you win the sustained fight.

Vs Lux Easy

Free Lane. Swing on her every time she misses Light Binding (Q). She has no mobility to escape your swing chases.

Overstepping for CS

WARNING

Stop swinging into walls. Nothing looks more foolish than an Akshan who E's immediately into a turret or a wall and stops moving. Learn the angles. Go into Practice Tool and spend 20 minutes just swinging around the mid lane walls. Also, do not suicide for a revive. A 1-for-1 trade where you die to revive a 0/10 support is NOT worth it. Only risk your life if you are reviving a carry or 3+ members.

Stop holding R for the 'perfect' execute. Using it to force someone off an objective or to finish off a low-HP turret is often more valuable. A used R that does something is better than an R that sits on cooldown while you're dead.

When You Can't Auto Safely

Dodge Yasuo. His Windwall blocks your Q, your R, and your auto-attacks. It makes the game unplayable. Dodge Jax. His Counterstrike (E) blocks all your damage and he jumps on you while you swing.

Yasuo's windwall is a direct middle finger to your entire kit. Jax is even worse because he can counter-strike your E damage while jumping on your head. If either are picked, you're playing for roam, not for lane.

Dodge Yasuo. His Windwall blocks your Q, your R, and your auto-attacks, making you completely useless. Jax is also a nightmare because his Counterstrike (E) blocks all your damage while he jumps on you. If you see them, don't pick Akshan.

The DPS Check

Play like a rat. Do not engage the fight yourself. Stay in W stealth on the flank until the chaos starts. Let your tank engage. Once the major CC is blown, swing in to clean up the low HP targets (marked as Scoundrels). Your E resets on every kill, so you can chain swings together like a highlight reel. Use your Ultimate to execute fleeing enemies who flash away.

You aren't a front-to-back ADC. You're a clean-up crew. Stay in W and wait for the HP bars to drop, then swing in for the resets. If you aren't getting a 'Heroic' revive every few fights, you're failing your team.

The Late Game Build

Kraken Slayer into The Collector into Infinity Edge. This builds turns you into a glass cannon assassin. You will delete squishies before they land from your swing. The Collector is key because the execute works beautifully with your Ultimate bullets and E spray.

Swap Collector for Lord Dominik's if they have two or more tanks. You need the armor pen more than the execute. Blade of the Ruined King is also a solid rush if you're against a melee top who loves stacking HP.

When Akshan Comes Online

Level 2 is your first kill window if you land a good swing. Level 9 is a massive spike because your Q clears the caster minions instantly. The biggest spike is 2-items (Kraken + Collector), where your burst becomes unreactable for ADCs.

Level 2 is your first chance to ruin someone's day. If you land a double-shot into Q, most mid-laners are at 40% HP. Use that pressure to roam and find the enemy jungler at their buff.

Level 2 is your first kill window if you land a sneaky Q-swing trade. Level 9 is a massive spike because your Q clears caster minions instantly, letting you roam. Your biggest spike is 2-items (Kraken + Collector), where your burst becomes unreactable for squishies.

The Outplay Kite

Reviving 4 teammates after a lost teamfight is the single biggest tilt-inducer in the game. The enemy team used 5 ultimates effectively to win the fight, and you pressed W to undo all their work. Type 'Heroes never die' in all chat after a multi-man revive. It breaks their will to play.
