The LoL Patch 26.21 preview is here, and Riot has finally turned its attention back to your ranked games. Azir, Orianna and Ryze are on the buff list. Lee Sin, Qiyana, Yasuo and Yone are on the nerf list. There are 28 champions named in total, plus changes to Dawncore, Bastionbreaker, Gluttonous Greaves and Hubris.

This is Riot Phroxzon's preview, not the final patch notes. Riot has named the targets and explained several goals, but most ability values are still missing. The planned live date is October 21, 2026, Pacific time, according to Riot's patch schedule. Dates and preview changes can move. Until 26.21 ships, the live tier list still reflects the current patch.

LoL Patch 26.21 at a glance

Planned changeNames to watch
11 champion buffsAzir, Darius, Miss Fortune, Nunu & Willump, Orianna, Ryze, Sion, Taliyah, Vel'Koz, Xin Zhao, Zyra

6 champion adjustmentsLocke, Renekton, Taric, Twisted Fate, Varus, Zaahen
Item changesDawncore buff; Bastionbreaker and Gluttonous Greaves nerfs; Hubris weaker for ranged users and stronger for melee users

Riot calls this its first patch after the Worlds patch. That refers to the 26.20 tournament build, not the end of Worlds 2026. The event starts on October 15 and runs into November; you can follow the dates in our Worlds schedule and format guide. Ranked keeps changing while the pros play on 26.20.

LoL Patch 26.21 buffs: pro picks get room to breathe

The interesting mid-lane names are Azir, Orianna and Ryze. Riot says their solo queue win rates have been held back by how much they can do in organized play. If you play one of them already, that is promising. It does not mean you should first-time Azir in ranked the moment the patch downloads. We need the actual values before calling any of these a climb pick.

Darius and Sion are the top-lane buffs on the list. Darius players will want to know whether Riot helps him reach a target or simply rewards a won trade more. Sion's value depends just as much on waves and lane matchups as it does on raw stats. The preview does not say which part of either kit changes.

In jungle, Nunu & Willump and Xin Zhao are getting help. Xin Zhao is the obvious counterpoint to all the jungle nerfs below, but a name on the buff list is not a win-rate prediction. Watch the final notes for clear speed and early-fight changes before changing your pathing or build.

Miss Fortune is the only marksman on the buff list. That matters because Caitlyn, Jinx and Tristana are all being nerfed in the same patch. She already benefits from strong lane trades and fast teamfight damage; exactly how much better she gets depends on which lever Riot pulls. Taliyah, Vel'Koz and Zyra round out the buff list. They cover different roles, so check the eventual ability changes rather than treating this as a blanket mage buff.

If your main is here, keep playing it on 26.20. The preview is a reason to watch the full notes, not a reason to pretend the buff is live early.

LoL Patch 26.21 nerfs: jungle and bot take the hit

Lee Sin and Qiyana are the clearest jungle story. Riot identifies them as two of the strongest junglers at high levels of play and in some regions. Qiyana is also a Bastionbreaker buyer, and that item is getting changed. Riot says it is trying to avoid hitting her too hard from both directions. Anyone declaring her dead from a preview list has skipped the only detail that matters: the numbers.

Nidalee, Rammus and Wukong are also marked for nerfs. That is five junglers on the list, but they do not win games in the same way. Nidalee needs early pressure and fast clears; Rammus punishes the right draft; Wukong brings reliable engage. We will need to see whether Riot cuts their clear, durability or teamfight power before ranking the damage.

Bot lane loses Caitlyn, Jinx and Tristana. Caitlyn's lane control, Jinx's reset fights and Tristana's early all-in are three different problems. The item pass adds another wrinkle: Gluttonous Greaves have been too strong on marksmen, according to Riot, and ranged Hubris is also going down. A champion may take a direct nerf and an item nerf, so checking only her ability row will miss the full change.

Viktor gets a mid-lane nerf. Yasuo and Yone are also on the list, with Riot discussing the shape of their item builds rather than simply asking for less damage. Their early lifesteal options can make losing lanes too forgiving, while first-item Immortal Shieldbow is a direction Riot likes. The final values will decide whether this actually changes what you rush or just makes the lane a little less free.

For now, do not rewrite your champion pool around a list of names. If you're already struggling in ranked, the MMR checker is more useful than blaming a future patch for today's LP gains.

Six adjustments, with useful Taric and Twisted Fate changes

The adjustment list is Locke, Renekton, Taric, Twisted Fate, Varus and Zaahen. An adjustment can move power around without being an overall buff. That distinction matters most for Locke and Varus, whose final ability changes could alter builds rather than just raise or lower win rate.

Two quality-of-life changes are already specific. Taric's Q and R are planned to work on untargetable allies again. That closes an annoying edge case for a support whose best moments are timed around saving someone at the last possible second. Twisted Fate's R is planned to reveal untargetable units, including examples Riot gave such as Yuumi during W and Master Yi during Q. These are interaction fixes, not permission to assume Taric or TF gets a higher damage number.

Riot also talks about making champion costs matter again, with mana as one example. If a kit currently gets its strongest pattern without paying much for it, an adjustment can create an actual decision instead of a free repeat. We will see how that applies to Locke, Renekton, Varus and Zaahen when their ability tables arrive.

Item changes: Bastionbreaker, Greaves, Hubris and Dawncore

Bastionbreaker is being pushed away from raw lethality and toward its structure and objective passive. Riot's point is sensible: an assassin item should not be top-tier at killing champions *and* give excellent map impact at no real trade-off. If the final numbers follow that plan, it becomes more of a deliberate pick for a game where you can convert kills into towers or objectives. Qiyana players should read this item row beside her champion row.

Gluttonous Greaves are getting cut because they have been too strong, especially on marksmen. Riot has not given a final value yet, so there is no honest way to calculate how much this changes a first recall or full build.

Hubris is moving in opposite directions depending on who buys it: weaker for ranged champions, stronger for melee champions. Riot specifically points to Jhin and Miss Fortune as ranged users doing well with it. The twist is that Miss Fortune also appears on the champion buff list. Her final result will depend on both changes, not either headline on its own.

Dawncore is getting a buff. Riot says the enchanter capstone has been weak enough that players mostly buy it when they are already far ahead. A useful buff would give supports a reason to finish it in an ordinary game, not only when they are spending gold from a stomp. We will check the price and stats once Riot publishes them.

Release date, skins and what to check next

Riot's current schedule puts Patch 26.21 on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 in Pacific time. If you are in OCE, your local update window can fall on a different calendar day. Check the client and regional service status rather than assuming one global launch hour. Riot also says patch dates can change.

The patch has more than balance changes. Riot's True Damage announcement says the new True Damage: Know My Name skins arrive with 26.21. That is a separate confirmation from the balance preview. Skin pricing and the complete launch details belong in Riot's final notes, not in a guessed preview table.

Here is the useful checklist for patch day: read the final ability numbers, compare any direct nerf with its item changes, then look at actual match results by role. The AussyELO tier list will be more useful after 26.21 has a meaningful sample. If you want to know what is live right now, our Patch 26.20 notes cover the current build.
