Champion Stats
Low elo players don't respect Blitzcrank's hook (Q) hitbox. It's much larger than it looks, and a 'lollypopping' anchor can catch them even if they think they've dodged it. They also fail to respect his W (Overdrive) speed, often being caught off guard by his sudden gap-close. A Blitzcrank on the map creates a zone of fear that uncoordinated teams cannot handle.
The Level 1 Hook
Blitzcrank has the best level 1 invade in the game. Start Q (Rocket Grab). Coordinate with your team to invade the enemy's buff and hook the jungler or support. You can often secure First Blood or a massive buff steal before the game even starts.
The Blitzcrank Skin Tier List
'iBlitzcrank' is the definitive smurf skin—the hook animation is notoriously hard to see and feels 'faster'. 'Space Groove Blitz & Crank' offers amazing modern visual effects. 'Lancer Paragon/Rogue' are great high-tier choices. Avoid 'Rusty Blitzcrank' unless you want the absolute rarity flex.
'iBlitzcrank' isn't just a skin, it's a competitive advantage. The hook projectile is notably harder to distinguish from the environment in the river. 'Space Groove' is for the flex, but if you're serious about the climb, you stick to the robot. Avoid 'Piltover Customs'—the model is too bulky and messes with your perceived hitbox.
When They Ban Blitzcrank
Nautilus is the closest thing to a point-and-click win button if Blitz is gone. Thresh is for the playmakers, but remember you can't just run them down as easily. Pyke is a bait—unless you're a one-trick, you'll just end up inting. Stick to Nautilus for the consistency.
Nautilus offers a similar 'hook and lock down' profile with more tankiness. Thresh provides higher-skill utility hooks. Pyke is the assassin-style hook support if you want kills.
Runes That Work on Blitzcrank
Glacial Augment is the best choice for maximizing the disruption after a hook. Aftershock is an alternative for higher tankiness when you engage. Secondary Inspiration with Hextech Flashtraption and Cosmic Insight to have more creative hook angles from brushes.
Leveling Blitzcrank's Abilities
Max Q first—it's your entire character, giving you the lower cooldown and higher damage on your hook. Max W second for the increased movement speed. Max E last as the knock-up duration is fixed.
Mastering Blitzcrank's Kit
Rocket Grab. Blitzcrank fires his right hand, pulling the first enemy hit towards him and dealing damage. This is your core—master the prediction and hitbox.
Overdrive. Blitzcrank gains a massive burst of movement and attack speed, then is slowed briefly after the effect ends. Use this to gap-close for an E or to position for a hook.
Power Fist. Blitzcrank charges his next attack to deal double damage and knock the target into the air. This is your primary follow-up CC for a hook.
Static Field. Passive: nearby enemies are struck by lightning. Active: Blitzcrank releases an electrical pulse that damages and silences nearby enemies, also destroying their shields. Use this to interrupt channels.
Matchups That Matter for Blitzcrank
Hard Matchup. He can E (Arcane Shift) out of your hook even after it connects. You have to wait for him to waste his E or hook him from a brush where he can't see the animation.
Hard Counter. Her Black Shield (E) completely invalidates your Rocket Grab. You have to bait it out or hook the target she doesn't shield.
Easy Matchup (for her). If you hook her, you are just helping her engage on your carries. Focus on hooking the ADC instead or save your hook for after she engages.
Hook Addiction
Stop missing your hooks! If you throw a Q and miss, you lose all your pressure for 20 seconds. Sometimes holding the hook and just running at the enemy with W is more effective than throwing it immediately. Also, don't hook the enemy tank into your own carries!
Flash-E is often better than a long-range Q. Knock them up first, then they're a stationary target for the hook. It's the 'Master+ Blitz' combo that people always fall for.
Stop missing your hooks! If you throw a Q and miss, you lose all pressure for 20 seconds. Sometimes holding the hook and running at them with W is scarier than throwing it. Don't hook the tank!
When Your Engage Gets Peeled
Dodge if facing heavy 'shield' or 'spell shield' comps with Morgana, Sivir, or Malzahar if you don't have a way to pop them. Also dodge into Leona who wants to be hooked into your team.
Morgana is an instant dodge. Black Shield makes you a walking ward. Sivir is just as annoying with the spell shield. If you're forced into these matchups, roam Mid the second you hit level 3 and don't look back. Bot lane is a lost cause.
The Engage Timing
In teamfights, your job is to find a pick. Stay in the shadows, clear vision, and look for a hook on the enemy ADC or Mid-laner. Once you land a hook, follow up with E (Power Fist) and R (Static Field) to silence and lock them down. If you miss your hook, focus on using your E to peel for your own carries.
Stay in the fog of war. A Blitzcrank they can see is a Blitzcrank that does nothing. The moment a carry walks up for a ward or a cannon, that's your window. E before R to guarantee the silence lands while they're knocked up—it prevents any escape spells.
The AP Blitz Build
Full AP 'One-Punch' Blitzcrank. Everfrost (if available, else Luden's) -> Lich Bane -> Rabadon's Deathcap. With this build, your Q-E-R combo will literally delete any squishy. It's the ultimate 'hook and cook' flex for carrying games where you don't need to be a tank.
Everfrost (if you're playing on an older patch/mod) or Luden's is pure dopamine. But realistically, you need Shurelya's for the repositioning. If you're 5/0, go for Lich Bane. One E-punch will literally delete 40% of their HP.to be.
Blitzcrank's Strongest Moments
Level 1 is your strongest point for invades. Level 2 with E is your first massive kill window. Your biggest item spike is reaching Shurelya's Battlesong or Mobis, which enhances your ability to roam and find picks across the entire map.
Level 1 invades are why people play this champ. If you aren't in their jungle at 0:50, you're playing Blitz wrong. Your biggest spike is Mobis + Shurelya's—once you have that, the entire map is your playground. Nobody is safe.
The Rocket Grab
Spam the 'laugh' emote every time you land a hook. Type 'Beep Boop' in all-chat after a kill. The sight of a Blitzcrank running at you with W active is one of the most stressful experiences in League.
The 'Beep Boop' in all-chat is mandatory after a cross-wall hook. It's about the psychological damage. If you land a hook on an escaping enemy, spam /laugh while your team finishes them. Blitzcrank is 50% mechanics and 50% mental warfare.
Spam the 'laugh' emote every time you land a hook. Type 'Beep Boop' in all-chat after a kill. The sight of a Blitzcrank running at you with W active causes panic flashes. Use that fear.
