5 Signs League of Legends Might Not Be For You

5 Signs League of Legends Might Not Be For You

Thinking about getting into League of Legends, one of the most popular online games in the world? Be warned: the game is not for everyone. League of Legends might not be for you if:

EVEN MILD INSULTS EASILY GET TO YOU

League is a minefield full of players who wouldn’t think twice about cursing and insulting other players regardless of team affiliation. This is one of the things new players must be fully aware of before diving into League.

In order to survive the toxicity that comes with League, you need to have the right temperament to deal with foul words and obnoxious behavior. You won’t last long in League if curses and insults – even the mildest ones – easily get to you. You need to learn how to shut out and ignore unpleasant players and annoying trolls who make a living out of drawing negative reactions from other players.

If you get hot-blooded easily whenever other players slap you with unpleasant words and spend more time trading barbs instead of actually playing, then it’s a good sign that League isn’t for you. You would be better off playing other games, ideally single-player games where you don’t need to deal with other players. This is why League is best experienced with real-life friends, whom you are less likely to butt heads with.

YOU PLAY SOLO AND REGULARLY IGNORE OBJECTIVES

League is a team-based game where the gameplay encourages players to work with teammates for better chances at winning. However, not everyone is wired to work in a team-based environment.

A lot of players go the lone wolf route, which includes minimal interaction with teammates. This is acceptable as long as the lone wolf still helps out in team affairs such as taking objectives and participating in team clashes. In some instances, a lone wolf playstyle is even necessary. Specifically, when teamed-up with toxic teammates. But there’s a difference between this playstyle and one where a player deliberately ignores teammates and objectives while playing solo.

If you employ the latter playstyle, then the team-based gameplay in League might not be for you. You might as well play with bots and save other players the trouble of having to deal with you. Nobody likes to play with uncooperative teammates who don’t give a crap how the match goes. Guess who else fits this profile? Trolls, who can be extremely frustrating if you don’t know how to deal with them properly.

YOU BARELY HAVE ENOUGH TIME FOR ONE MATCH

On average, a match takes around 30-45 minutes, depending on the pace. One of the unwritten rules in League is that players that commit to a match must see it through to the end, no matter what happens in the match. Going AFK while the match is in full swing is totally unacceptable in League. Except maybe during extremely dire and life threatening circumstances.

If you can’t spare the time to finish even a single match on a regular basis, then it’s a sign that League isn’t for you. Maybe you need play other games where you can afford to just spend short bursts on and can leave anytime without disrupting the experience for other players. Mobile games and casual games come to mind.

If you barely have the time to play video games, even while commuting or during weekends, then maybe it’s time to leave behind video games altogether. Not exactly a happy thought. But it is what it is. You can get back into League and video games in general when you have enough time to spare on the hobby.

Another reason why League might not be for you if you have an always jam-packed schedule is that a lot of time needs to be invested in order to get good at it. Experience is the best teacher in this game. You need to play in dozens of matches over several months to get a full grasp on the gameplay. Imagine how long it would take if you can only afford one or two matches that you can barely see through to the end every week.

YOU GET BORED FAST

The gameplay in League is repetitive: You pick a Champion. You farm for gold and EXP. You take out opposing Champions and destroy turrets. You destroy the enemy base. Rinse and repeat. This is how a MOBA works.

The only things keeping League from going stale are arguably the number of playable characters and the diverse cast of people you play with and against, which turns each match into a unique competitive experience. However, not all players come with the same competitive fire that keeps them from being bored with the repetitive gameplay.

There are players who prefer to have an ultimate and definitive goal – a real ending, in other words – to shoot for in a video game. There are players who simply get bored faster than others when presented with a repetitive gameplay. If you belong to this particular group, then League probably won’t suit you.

Granted, it takes a while to fully grasp the gameplay, which encourages players to enter matches over and over again until they get it right. But if you’re not into that sort of thing and prefer to play more exciting games, then it would be best to stay off League. MOBA isn’t for everyone.

YOU HAVE AN EXTREMELY SLOW INTERNET CONNECTION

Last checked, League requires a constant internet connection, a typical requirement for an online multiplayer game. And not just an internet connection. In order to experience League without running into connection issues, a relatively fast internet connection is recommended. Or at least a stable one.

Having a turtle-slow and unstable internet connection while playing League leaves you prone to lags, which can affect the gameplay. You could be a liability to the team if you frequently experience connection issues, which could hurt the gameplay experience for other players.

Thankfully, League isn’t an overly demanding game when it comes to internet speed. But if you have a ridiculously slow internet speed, it would be best to stay off League until you can upgrade to a better internet connection.

If none of the above-mentioned signs apply to you, then feel free to dive into League. A great way to experience League for the first time is to buy a Smurf League of Legends account, which allows you to immediately get into the thick of things.
